- Description
- Biomass materials are increasingly used in the power generation industry. The material properties at the particle and bulk scale require characterisation for optimised design of the materials handling process. This paper presents the study on the contact mechanics for modelling biomass particles using discrete element method. The developed method is able to induce particle shrinkage and growth due to the external loading and unloading processes. The hysteresis effect of the material in bulk scale during loading and unloading process were also introduced. The outcome of the modelling enables more accurate macroscopic behaviour when modelling biomass material in bulk scale.
